Collection: Dahlia Tuber Shop

We will offer our first public tuber sale after the 2024 growing season. Until then, all tubers will show as sold out. We're ecstatic to be growing over 100 varieties on the farm this year, so stay tuned for exciting updates!

These varieties are also available as cut flowers, and this page serves as a reference for what might be available. After our Fall 2024 inventory, some varieties may be marked "building stock" and unavailable for purchase.

Glass House Flower Farm Tuber Policies and Guarantee

Sale Info: The varieties listed on this page represent what we are growing in the 2024 season and also serve as a reference for our cut flower customers. Until the tubers are divided and inventoried, over-wintered and re-inventoried, we will not know exactly what will be available in the sale. We will hold an initial sale in January 2025, with the possibility of some restock in March or April. Subscribe to our emails to get notifications about our sale and restocks.

Sale Quantities: We've been growing out some varieties for several years and expect to have large quantities, whereas others that are newer to our field may have very few available for sale. We reserve the right to mark these varieties as "LIMIT 1" - meaning one per household per season. Customers that do not respect these limit are subject to order cancellation.

Bulk Discounts: Varieties with bulk pricing available are indicated in the listing. An automatic 20% discount is applied when 5 or more of the same variety are added to cart.

Shipping: All tuber orders ship USPS within the US. Due to state agriculture restrictions, we are unable to ship to Hawaii or outside of the US. We are in zone 6 in SE Michigan, and will hold tubers until weather along their entire travel path poses no risk of tubers freezing (April/May). We do combine shipping on orders for a $5 processing fee. Use code COMBINESHIP at checkout on your subsequent orders.

Order Changes: We are unable to modify or cancel orders after they have been placed.

Receipt of Damaged Tubers: If your tubers were damaged during shipment, please send us an email with photos within 48 hours of receipt.

Stock Failure: We plan for stock losses over the winter in an effort to not oversell our tubers, but losses can happen and in some cases, over-wintered tubers may not live up to our sale quality standards. If a variety in your order unexpectedly becomes unavailable, we will notify you and issue a refund. You can choose to cancel your entire order or recieve a refund only for the cancelled item(s).

Virus Practices & Policy: According to the American Dahlia Society, over 80% of dahlias are infected with one or more viruses. This is an unfortunate reality of enjoying dahlia blooms. We take the following measures to minimize the spread of viruses:

  • Cull and dispose of any stock that appears symptomatic or generally underperforms
  • Sanitize snips with bleach solution between plants
  • Deter insects with the Brix method and by releasing successions of beneficial insects

Because viruses are so easily transmitted, we do not issue refunds for stock that appears symptomatic in your field.

Gall Prevention Practices and Policy: Gall is most often found in imported tubers or those harvested by machine, but the bacteria that cause crown gall and leafy gall infect many plants and can be lurking in the soil. We take the following steps to minimize the spread of gall and ensure we are not shipping infected stock:

  • All tubers are sourced from reputable growers and grown on farm a minimum of one growing season. We do not resell tubers from wholesalers or other farms. We disclose the number of seasons we've been growing specific varieties in the listing for full transparency.
  • Any symptomatic stock is culled and destroyed. Plants immediately adjacent are also destroyed, and plants surrounding those are quarantined for two years. We grow in grow bags and raised beds, so any beds that see infection are not replanted for at least 2 years.
  • Shovels and snips are sanitized with bleach solution between plants.
  • Tubers are stored by clump, and we keep detailed records of where plants were located so that if an issue arises coming out of winter storage, we can cull any tubers from that clump and any others that were co-located in the garden.

In the unlikely event your tuber stock shows any symptoms of leafy or crown gall within 30 days of receipt, please immediately let us know and we will refund that variety. After 30 days, we will respond on a case by case basis as the bacteria that cause gall can be found in soil and runoff. We process and pack all varieties separately, so it is unlikely any other variety in your order would be impacted and will not be refunded.

Tuber Quality: As a small business, your satisfaction is extremely important to us. All tubers are grown on our farm and guaranteed to have have at least one viable eye. We strive to ship tubers with visible eyes starting to sprout, but some slow pokes may arrive still dormant. In the off chance you receive a dud, and your tuber doesn't make any progress after six weeks, please dig it up and send us a photo.

Glass House Flower Farm is not responsible for dahlia performance factors outside of our control, including improper storage or planting, or insect or rodent damage.

Refund Policy: We offer refunds for unanticipated stock losses, tubers damaged in transit, and in the unlikely event tubers that ship dormant do not eye up. We will offer a replacement where possible.

Contact: Please email glasshouseflowerfarm@gmail.com for order issues, or fill out our contact form. Please understand that we have jobs outside of the farm, and a farm to look after, so response to initial email can take up to one week. We aren't ignoring you and will be back to manage the inbox when we can - often late nights or rainy days.
